On tap at the Hulmeville Inn, Hulmeville, PA, for $1.25 as part of a sampler flight. Deep reddish brown with a thin off white head. Sour! Licorice, seems off. Bitter, seems smoky, and deep. Not my type but well done. Cherry and lots of wine. Grapes, tannins, and wine. Once you notice the wine effects, it makes a lot more sense.

Avery Old Jubilation Ale

No pics, friends, sorry. I was out and about, away from the photostudio.

Style and Glass: Strong English Ale, Pint
ABV, Volume & Calories: 8% in 12 fl oz. estimated at 200 C
Purchased at: Issac Newton’s, Newtown, PA for $5.00

Aroma: tannins, grapes, malty, sweet, honey, fruity

Visuals: beautiful label, summer sunset, deep, ruby, nice tan head, hazy, long lasting lace.

Taste: well balanced, heavy barley malt, cherry, peach, some hops, good strength.

Palate: high quality, sticky texture, long burnt finish.

Overall: Wonderful, delicious, great flavor & finish. I’d love to repeat. It’s a favorite. High value. High craft. I paired it with vegetarian chili and a blackened chicken wrap — absolutely delicious, and a very good pairing.

Weyerbacher Heresy

Style and Glass: Imperial Stout; Snifter
ABV, Volume & Calories: 8% in 22 fl oz. estimated at 400 C
Purchased at: Jack’s Wine Sense, Ewing, NJ for $4.99

Aroma: nice, wonderful, permeating, oak, liquor, tannins, rose, whiskey. 10 out of 10.

Visuals: medium high design, black, oily, thick tan head, great, sticky lace. 5 out of 5.

Taste: expertly balanced, heavy malt, heavy hops, heavy strength, heavy craft. 10 out of 10.

Palate: high quality, sandy texture, long chocolate finish. 5 out of 5.

Overall: It’s almost a crime for me to have beer this good for this price. This is a fantastic, affordable, high quality treat, I’ll have it again for sure, a new favorite, high value, expertly crafted. About the only thing I don’t like about the whole experience is the cheesy graphic on the label. 20 out of 20.

Rogue Old Crustacean BWSA 2006

Style and Glass: BWSA, Snifter
ABV, Volume & Calories: 11.5% in 12 fl oz. estimated at 200C
Purchased at: Circle Liquors Super Saver, Pennington, NJ for $4.49

Aroma: amazing, tannins, oak, grapes, wine, alcohol, cherries, sourness. 10 out of 10.

Visuals: well designed, black, thick, opaque, long lasting off white head, persistent lace. 5 out of 5.

Taste: way off balance, hefty malt, some hops, layered, very strong, medium craft. 8 out of 10.

Palate: high quality, smoother texture, rough finish. 4 out of 5.

Overall: A mixed bag. Interesting, but very chemical, and lots of unmasked alcohol. Seems fruity, but also off. Nice to try, but not a repeat, not nearly a favorite, medium value, medium craft. 16 out of 20.

Samuel Smith Imperial Stout

RateBeer Rating, Style and Glass: 98, Imperial Stout, Snifter
ABV, Volume & Calories: 7 % in 12 fl oz. estimated at 170 C
Purchased at: Circle Liquors, Pennington, NJ for $2.75

Aroma: tannins, dark, roasted, chocolate, coffee, nice, inviting. 10 out of 10.

Visuals: deep, murky, black, opaque, tan, persistent head, loose lace. 5 out of 5.

Taste: deep, roasted, liquor, light bitterness, heavy malt flavors, layered, rich, well crafted. 9 out of 10.

Palate: soda, heavy, oily, long, deep, delicious finish. 5 out of 5.

Overall: Not quite up there with some other imperials, such as Stone, and not nearly as rich nor deep as something like Mikkeller’s Geek Breakfast, but highly available, and very delicious. I’d have it again in a heartbeat. It’s a great beer, and very well crafted. 18 out of 20.
