Enjoyed this with friends at Issac Newton’s in Newtown, PA. On tap, served a chilled (sigh) shaker. Deep golden, brilliant, clear and delicious. Nice white head dissipates fairly quickly. Some lacing. All about the hops — delicious flowery aroma and bitter finish that is a little bit sour and sweet. Would be delicious with a Szechuan stir fry or with Vietnamese chile dumplings. Dark flavor, roasty, and an exemplar of the style. I really really want to try some of the bigger brews by RR.

Calories: estimated at 150 C
Volume: 12 fl oz can
Glass: 6 oz goblet
Purchased at: West Trenton Wine and Liquor

sensory first impression: Nice rippled creamy head. Beautiful color — off white head on a golden, amber, brown, varied body. Clear, bright sparkling. Hoppy aroma and wonderful flavor of pine and citrus.

Aroma: 10 out of 10
Spicy, coriander, Pine, Grapefruit, sludgy texture, clay, flowery.

Visuals: 5 out of 5
Amber, brown, golden, variant body with long lasting head of off white. Nicely laced.

Taste: 10 out of 10
heavy malt overtones, slightly sweet aftertaste, very hoppy bitter presence, sour in after taste.

Palate: 4 out of 5
Body is medium-full. Mouthfeel is clay and mold. Texture is dull, but wonderful. Carbonation is visually present, and active. Finish is long, sweet, sour, and deep.

Overall experience: 18 out of 20. I liked the uniquity of the canned delivery, the surprise of the quality, the aroma, the color, and the flavor.

Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Urbock

RateBeer Rating, Style and Glass: 97, Dimpled Mug, Lager glass, Stein
ABV, Volume & Calories: 6.5 % in 16.9 fl oz. estimated at 170C
Purchased at: OakTree in South Plainsfield NJ for $4.99

Aroma: smoky, sausage, sour, spicy, roasted. 8 out of 10.

Visuals: pale, clouded, brown, troubled, wispy, white, nearly dissipating head, lightly laced. 4 out of 5.

Taste: smoky, well balanced, needs pairing, strong, spicy, pepperoni, little bitterness, slightly watery. 7 out of 10.

Palate: creamy, sticky, oily, medium sour finish, acetic. 3 out of 5.

Overall: Smoked sausage in a bottle. In desperate need of a strong food pairing. I’d have it again with a Polish or German meal. Might go well with Pizza. Not a favorite for me, but the style is one of my lesser picks. It’s down there with Lambics. Seems well crafted, but somewhat weaker than expected. 16 out of 20.
