Style and Glass: DIPA, Snifter; tulip
ABV, Volume & Calories: 10.5 % in 22 fl oz. estimated at 400 C
Purchased at: The Six Pack Store, Roosevelt Blvd., Philadelphia, PA for $9.00

Aroma: flowery citrus burn, soft but speaks of quality and heft.

Visuals: A very nice package — inviting but not overwhelming, hop bomb motif is especially enticing, murky after adding sediment, but brilliantly clear at first pour. Deep, dark orange with staying white head and sticky lace. Hard to see through.

Taste: A screaming fit of sugar malt and piercing hop bitterness. It literally hurts the back of my mouth and tongue. It is amazing. The burn goes on for nearly a minute. A sensory experience like no other. The citrus, pepper, and it must be capsaicin, I can’t believe that any other additive would burn like this. It is used to a special and wondrous effect.  Bravo.

Palate: Piercing, biting, and hoppy. Burning, sweet, and bitter. Coating and delicious.

Overall: It is a stand alone in imperial IPAs. None other have exactly the ssame effect. In a long line of collectible duplicates, this DIPA stands alone. Very, very well done, and memorable.

Weyerbacher Muse Saison Farmhouse Ale

Style and Glass: Saison, Tulip; flute
ABV, Volume & Calories: 6.2 % in 22 fl oz. estimated at 300 C
Purchased at: Canal’s Lawrenceville, NJ for $1.66

Aroma: nice, flowery, wheat, rice, hay, dust, mold, field, grass.

Visuals: wacky label, sunset at harvest, pale, orange, brilliant at first pour, hazy after, wispy head stays, loose lace.

Taste: unbalanced, corn, barley, rice, little hops, subtle, delicious.

Palate: silky, smooth, tea, light, crisp finish.

Overall: A very nice light saison. I’ve had it a few times now, and I enjoy it. I prefer stronger brews, but this is a nice, lighter session brew. Unbelievable value for the price.



Russian River IPA

Enjoyed this with friends at Issac Newton’s in Newtown, PA. On tap, served a chilled (sigh) shaker. Deep golden, brilliant, clear and delicious. Nice white head dissipates fairly quickly. Some lacing. All about the hops — delicious flowery aroma and bitter finish that is a little bit sour and sweet. Would be delicious with a Szechuan stir fry or with Vietnamese chile dumplings. Dark flavor, roasty, and an exemplar of the style. I really really want to try some of the bigger brews by RR.



St. Bernardus Tripel

Style and Glass: Abbey Tripel; Trappist
ABV, Volume & Calories: 8 % in11.2 fl oz. estimated at 200 C
Purchased at: Canal’s Lawrenceville for $17.00 as a part of a 4 part gift pack complete with glass.

Aroma: faint, flowery, fruity, and wheaty.

Visuals: simple, beautiful packaging, golden, hazy, thin white staying head, crisp lace.

Taste: less balanced, heavy sweet malts, less hops, focus on sweet, fruity, apples, nutty, salty, peach.

Palate: rich fruity wash, terrycloth, spongey, longer muted finish.

Overall: A very nice dry tripel. I’d love to have it again. Quite enjoyable — would pair fantastically with fruit, chocolate, chicken.



St. Bernardus Pater 6

Style and Glass: Belgian Ale, Trappist
ABV, Volume & Calories: 6% in 11.2 fl oz. estimated at 150 C
Purchased at: Joe Canal’s Lawrenceville, NJ as part of a $17.00 gift pack with glass.

Aroma: beautiful scent, flowery, cherries, peach, cloves, spicy, fruity, oak.

Visuals: simple, beautiful packaging, cloudy iced tea, deep reddish brown, nearly opaque, staying white head, intricate fresh lace.

Taste: deep and balanced, hearty fruity malt, some fleeting hops, lighter body than expected.

Palate: crisp, clean, but obviously unfiltered, longer fruit based finish.

Overall: A wonderful brew. A bit expensive for what it is, understandably so, but a very nice experience.



Stone Double Bastard Ale

Style and Glass: American Strong Ale, Snifter; trappist
ABV, Volume & Calories: 10.5% in 22 fl oz. estimated at 400 C
Purchased at: Canal’s Lawrenceville, NJ for $7.99

Having this on Christmas night to finish off an amazing day. Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all of you.

Aroma: amazing, sweet, flowery, hoppy, grassy, heavenly, malty, earthy, mold.

Visuals: nice label design, what seas might look like in hell, menacing deep red, brilliant, clear, thick white head, sticky tight lace.

Taste: wow. very malty, deeply hoppy, sugary, not syrupy, crisp, heavy, molasses, smoke, strong.

Palate: Of the highest visual and taste quality, rigid, sandy, rough, long bitter finish.

Overall: An absolutely amazing DIPA, though not classified as such. I’d have it again no question. Perhaps one of my top ten. A favorite. Great value. High craft.



Left Hand Rye Bock Lager

Style and Glass: Dunkler Bock, Mug; Snifter
ABV, Volume & Calories: 7.7% in 25.36 fl oz. estimated at 400 C
Purchased at: Canal’s Lawrenceville, NJ for $2.79 (down from $14 ea — I picked up 6 for $15 — madmen there, and they better stay nutso)

Aroma: very nice, inviting, flowery, rye, bready, wheaty, grassy, meadow, rain.

Visuals: interesting label, like an aged iced tea, deep murky brown, cloudy, thick off white head, sticky lace.

Taste: very well balanced, brown ale, sage, onions, rye, roses, tea, chai, some hops, medium strength.

Palate: very nice, smooth oily texture, medium, light, tasty finish.

Overall: A summery brew, refreshing, very enjoyable. A repeat, 6x at least. Maybe my favorite bock so far. Amazing value — makes me wonder why the run on the price. well crafted.
