Hoegaarden Witbier
Hoegaarden is meadow sunlight, running through tall grass, light, simple, summer. Enjoyable, crisp, not sweet. Pale yellow body. #ttl.
Blue Moon Belgian White
Blue Moon is a dip in the creek, refreshing, but you can’t see your feet. More malty than the Hoegaarden, but still not sweet. Citrus! #ttl.Blue Moon is cloudy orange body, off white head, little aroma, rounded mouthfeel. Light, easy, breezy, lemony. #ttl.
Harpoon’s UFO Hefeweizen
@bkjones that’s cool. I very seldom have an opportunity to openly pan, but Harpoon is really crap in craft clothing.Harpoon UFO = corn, rice, fillers, thin flavor, a macro lager. No clove, no banana, no Belgium 2 speak of. Apologies, don’t mean 2 pan. #ttl
@beertweeter A shame about the API, but I enjoyed 3/4 of the brews. I really can’t get behind the Harpoon. #ttl To each their own, though.
Ommegang’s Witte
Ommegang’s Witte is lemony, cloudy yellow under a bright white head. Orange peel, coriander, clove, banana, and sourness make it great. #ttl
Actually decided to flip the Witte and the UFO, because I really love Ommegang, and want to save best for last. Harpoon is poured. #ttl

Ommegang Abbey Dubbel
Style and Glass: Abbey Dubbel, Trappist
ABV, Volume & Calories: 8.5% in 2 fl oz. estimated at 50C
Purchased at: Joe Canal’s Lawenceville, NJ for $0 at a tasting event
Aroma: Well done Belgian style. Scent of cloves, spices, anise, oak, age, mold, and alcohol.
Visuals: Beautiful packaging,nice tan head, sticky lace, and a deep mahogany body.
Taste: Well balanced, fruit, oak, wood, anise, great layered flavors. Very well done.
Palate: Fruit juice texture, beautiful long lasting deep dark, earthy flavor.
Overall: A very well done American version of the style. I’d have it again. Very nice especially for the price.

Impression: A nice creamy yellow color, ends hazy in the pour due to style, bottle conditioning and large particles. A nice white head with good lace. Seems just a bit chemical or metallic in flavor. Usual fruity notes are missing from this Belgian style. Awash in oceanic carbonation. Reminds of champagne, but without the hit of alcohol. Flavor isn’t very forthcoming, but spiciness is there. Not a bad beer by any means, but it is mostly about texture, which is uncommon. I didn’t enjoy this very much.

Impression: Thick white head goes down to nothing quickly on top of a cloudy orange body. Amber tinged. Banana and fruit aroma is fairly common in this Belgian style. Slightly watery body is disappointing. Good aftertaste, but immediate impression is watery. Spicy finish. Flavors include peppers, coriander, banana, flowery hops, sandy yeast, and generally spicy presence.

Visuals: 4 out of 5
Taste: 8 out of 10
Palate: 3 out of 5
Overall: 14 out of 20. I liked the flavor, visuals, and aroma, but it was all just a bit lacking in impact.

Impression: Good fruity aroma. Good hazy color and depth. Head is lacking but haziness is there. Banana overtones, but watery finish. Visually in keeping with the style, but nothing particularly special here. Taste is good, but watery finish distracts from the overall effect. Palate is thin, watery, and diminishing.

Palate: 3 out of 5
Overall: 14 out of 20 I liked the flavor of what was there, but there was not enough ‘there’ there. Washed out watery undertone disrupts the effects of this beer. Not bad, but not great like other Ommegangs.
