I had four Wits tonight at the suggestion of http://tastelive.comand enjoyed 3 out of 4 of them.
Hoegaarden Witbier
Hoegaarden is meadow sunlight, running through tall grass, light, simple, summer. Enjoyable, crisp, not sweet. Pale yellow body. #ttl.
Blue Moon Belgian White
Blue Moon is a dip in the creek, refreshing, but you can’t see your feet. More malty than the Hoegaarden, but still not sweet. Citrus! #ttl.Blue Moon is cloudy orange body, off white head, little aroma, rounded mouthfeel. Light, easy, breezy, lemony. #ttl.
Harpoon’s UFO Hefeweizen
@bkjones that’s cool. I very seldom have an opportunity to openly pan, but Harpoon is really crap in craft clothing.Harpoon UFO = corn, rice, fillers, thin flavor, a macro lager. No clove, no banana, no Belgium 2 speak of. Apologies, don’t mean 2 pan. #ttl
@beertweeter A shame about the API, but I enjoyed 3/4 of the brews. I really can’t get behind the Harpoon. #ttl To each their own, though.
Ommegang’s Witte
Ommegang’s Witte is lemony, cloudy yellow under a bright white head. Orange peel, coriander, clove, banana, and sourness make it great. #ttl
Actually decided to flip the Witte and the UFO, because I really love Ommegang, and want to save best for last. Harpoon is poured. #ttl

Loved the Ommegang Witte the best followed by Hoegaarden Witbier and then the Blue Moon. Haven’t tried the UFO, but I’ll probably skip it after reading this.
Comment by scott @thebrewclub 06/10/2009 @ 10:16 AMIt turns out there is an actual witte from Harpoon that is tastable, but I haven’t found it. Rumor has it it’s not crap like the UFO hefe. Still, fool me once, shame on you, drink a Harpoon, you’re wasting your cash, IMO.
Comment by lemasney 06/11/2009 @ 9:38 PMI am loving the Belgian Style, Pale Ale and the pairing of smooth and flavorful beer with the right foods to counter or elevate the taste. Flying Fish is terrific, I have liked the brews so far, except the Farmhouse Summer, prefer Sam’s
Comment by Suzanne 06/11/2009 @ 10:19 PMI think next we’ll graduate you to Belgian strongs, or possibly imperial stouts.
